WHAT ARE BREEAM CATEGORIES?

The 10 different categories for BREEAM certification and the scoring rates for these categories are as follows:

Management: 12.5%
Health and Wellbeing: 15%
Energy: 19%
Transportation: 8.5%
Water: 6.5%
Material: 12.5%
Waste: 7.5%
Environmental Pollution: 10%
Innovation: 10%
Location Selection: 8.5%
In total, projects are certified as "Successful" with an average score of 50%, with 30% to 49% "Good", 50% to 64% "Very Good", 65% to 79% "Excellent" and 80% or more " It is classified as "extraordinary". These certificates show that a building has a high environmental performance and contributes to the construction of a sustainable future.

WHAT IS BREEAM (BRE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT METHOD)?

BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is a UK-based sustainability assessment system and is used to evaluate the environmental performance of buildings. This system was developed to promote environmental sustainability and increase green building standards in the construction industry.

BREEAM is a system that covers all stages of the design, construction and operation of buildings. It evaluates building performance under 10 different categories: Management, Health and Welfare, Energy, Transportation, Water, Materials, Waste, Pollution, Innovation and Social Issues.

Under these categories, many factors related to the environmental performance of building design are evaluated. These include factors such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, use of environmentally friendly materials, indoor air quality, transport accessibility and sustainable land use.

BREEAM certification provides an assessment of the sustainability performance of buildings and verifies that the building meets green building standards designed to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future.

As a result, BREEAM is a system that evaluates the environmental performance of buildings, promotes sustainability and raises green building standards in the construction industry. This system is an important tool for those who want to contribute to the environmental health of future generations.

WHAT ARE THE BREEAM CERTIFICATION LEVELS AND RATIOS?

BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) certificates are evaluated according to the environmental performance of the buildings and are given at certain levels according to the performance level. These levels provide evidence that buildings meet certain criteria regarding their environmental performance. BREEAM certificates are awarded at the following levels:

Pass: The building meets the BREEAM criteria and only meets the basic requirements. Its rate is 30%.

Good: The building meets most of the BREEAM criteria and has an average sustainability performance. Its rate is 45%.

Very Good: The building meets the majority of BREEAM criteria and has good sustainability performance. Its rate is 55%.

Excellent: The building exceeds the majority of BREEAM criteria and has a very good sustainability performance. Its rate is 70%.

Outstanding: The building exceeds the vast majority of BREEAM criteria and has the highest sustainability performance. Its rate is 85%.

These ratios are used to evaluate and certify the sustainability performance of buildings. A higher certification level indicates higher sustainability performance and confirms that buildings meet green building standards designed to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

WHAT ARE THE BREEAM CERTIFICATION STAGES?

A building or structure must go through a TWO step process for BREEAM certification. These stages are as follows:

1-Design Phase: In this phase, the building design and features are evaluated, and what needs to be done to improve environmental performance is determined. At this stage, it is recommended to work with a BREEAM accredited consultant. During the design phase, a BREEAM assessment report is prepared for the building design and features.

2-Construction Phase: During this phase, the environmental performance specifications stipulated during the building's construction are implemented and audited by a BREEAM accredited auditor. At the end of the construction phase, a BREEAM document application is made for the building.
